Basics of ASP Appalachia Service Project provides "Opportunities for Christian Mission through a ministry of home repair and rehabilitation and new home construction in Central Appalachia".
A youth ministry to help those less fortunate in the Appalachia Region Up to 40 youth and 17 adults make up eight work teams. This is our limit for people to go on the trip. If we have more than this number earn enough points, we will take the people with the most points. Teams repair homes in the five state Appalachia area (Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee) Total commitment is 150 hours of work over 9 months by our youth and adult leaders in fundraising, skills development, 8 day trip, and sharing their experiences. Trip is in mid-June each year. Fundraising starts in October of the prior year.
Any youth who is in 10 th - 12 th grade (by the month of the trip) and demonstrates a commitment to the project through participation in the fundraisers and skill sessions, and an attitude of teamwork and service. Any adult who actively participates in all activities, demonstrates a loving, caring attitude toward our youth, and a commitment to the ASP principles. (limited by the number of youth and parents of youth get special consideration).
